Tracklist explanation:

[track: 1 & 11] I first saw the Gaslamp Killer (who got’s his name from the San Diego district Gaslamp) at a Flying Lotus concert last May. That night GK played one of the most explosive, ultra-powerful sets I ever heard (even better that FL) and since then I followed him. Lately he released his EP “My Troubled Mind” and I wanted to share these tracks with you: Intro B and Anything Worse.

[track: 2 & 15] Next is Doran Concept. He also just released an new EP. And I gotta say, even after some years following him he still delivers!

[track: 3] Then the Trueby’s track! Rumours says that DJ Rainer Trueby after being disappeared for years is teaming up with Danilo from Inverse Cinematics to launch the Rainer Trueby project. I cant Wait till that drops! But before we hear anything about it here you have a sample of his pure geniusness . The track called: To know you and is a revised from To Know You Is To Love You by Stevie Wonder & Syreeta. This is pushing house music to another level like only producers as Moodymann or Henrik Schwarz could do.

[track: 4] Next is a nice collaboration between Sarah Ruba (supermodel) and her husband Adam Pavao (multi-intrumentalist) who produced a downbeat electronic Ep from which the song Everything I realy digg.

[track: 5 & 10] Because I’m in to the whole trueby thing I had to post some henrik schwarz mixes. Enjoy Both!

[track: 6] Terrence Parker did this song called Your Love which is still one of my favorite house tracks, although it got a bit boring after a while.

[track: 7] Next is a remix from my man Nosaj Thing who is gaining interest the last few months. Btw, I always had a weak spot for Radiohead anyway!

[track: 8] Then my all time favorite: Moodymann! If you digg, try to get your hand on some of his lp’s he released since 1994 on the KDJ label. It’s pricey but worth it!

[track: 9] Another remix from Erykah, I Know. But it keeps me going, atleast untill the New Amerika 2.0..

[track: 12 & 13] Then some new cats I like: the more known Hudson Mohawke with his new track and The Clonious with his first Ep.

[track: 14] After that a special cat: Dam Funk! probably one of the greatest artist I discovered lately! Soon he will release a 5 Lp long Epos about FUNK. listen to this untill then.

[track: 16] As closing a some what long song: Fila Brazillia’s remix from the Lamp song Cottonwool. Some great drum ‘n Bass!

[track: 17] Last is the Daedelus remix from a Build An Ark song! I really digg the melodramic sounds here.

2-D version of Icelandic diva’s epic storybook video “Wanderlust”

Nine months of blood, sweat and toil by Ghost Robot and UVPH to do this 2-d versoin for Björks wanderland. Directed by Encyclopedia Picutra aka Isiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch which website you definitely should check out! here the link. The 3D version of the 7.5 minute 2K epic is released as part of a boxed set complete with 3D glasses. So look out for that. 

In the video Björk makes a spiritual journey, with the wild river depicting the path she takes. At the start she is being helped by a herd of yaks but she is also obstructed by something that grows from out of her back. That ’Painbody Backpack’ seems like a metaphor for all the negative emotions that she want to get rid of at this trip. But what blow’s me away the most is the art direction from Encyclopedia Pictura. The video is a combination of computer generated images and puppetry. The result is a fantastic mountain landscape with a river that seems made of spaghetti. Underway Björk meets many mystical creatures and ultimately she is being swallowed by the river what looks liberating although i’m not sure what her true aim is here. Anyway, check that vid out! And support experimental artists..

This summer holiday we (myself and two friends) did a little interrail trip from Valencia(spain) to Istanbul(Turkey) and a dozen city in between.. And because we had such a long train ride before us, I made us a nice mix to listen to for when we would stare outside to the beautiful landscape!. Originally I was posting this before we would leave, but I underestimated the time it took to get all things organised. So here it is yet: some ambient soundscapes for your ears; FAR AWAY TRAINS PASSING BY .. enjoy

Destination: Kreuzberg in Berlin

For the third edition of Heineken Refreshing Sound Sessions the organization took Mocky & Jazzanova from the German capital for some on spot remixing! They chosed Ekko, a place with modest pricing and friendly staff (all volunteers) which makes you feel good rightaway! Before entering the club three Daft Punk-lookalikes (black catsuits) kept you from passing thru and only with a plastic dropcard you can enter. The access code on the back is for downloading later on.

Mocky got on stage at about ten a clock, but he first had to break down the Berlin Wall (complete with Graffiti) built between his band an the audience. Luckaly two east-european girls helped out.

Last wednesday we went to the opening of the amsterdam fantasy film festival!
The whole festival is taking place at Tuschinski, the most beautiful movie theater we got..
Actually, I just wanted to see The Fall but there was a ceremony before that..
First a royal award for the Festivaldirecteur and founder Jan Doense, then a award for Tim Burton who was granted a Career Achievement Award and also was the Guest of honour this years festival.
That was nice and all but I was here just for two reasons: 5 Centimeter Per Second and The Fall! So let me give you my reviews..

THE FALL 

Imagine 300’s picture having one of the deepest plots that have ever been made and having the independence that even the most indiest indie film would have times ten. Imagine the stories that you made up and lived in under the blanket of your bed at night when your parents were asleep. Imagine that you still have an imagination of a child and an experience of a grown-up who had been struck by the truth that usually breaks people’s dreams and illusions. This is “The Fall”.

The Fall was filmed over a period of four years and in 24 different countries. Being obsessed with movies and watching every single one that seems interesting, I have never ever seen such power and independence in a film. Independent films usually have their common indie feel – a crooky picture that shows protest to all the camera glamour that most of Hollywood films have, lack of dialogues filled with deep thoughtful pauses and this pretentiousness that screams “this is a masterpiece protest to Hollywood!”. Hell no – “The Fall” has nothing of that at all. Having a breathtakingly gorgeous picture, it has smart dialogues and striking truth that is being told by a broken man to a little dreamful girl.
 may call it a genius piece of cinematography, a masterpiece and something like that, but loud words like these doesn’t fit this experience that you will have to encounter by yourself. Believe me, you won’t find the right words to describe the feel that you will have after watching this one.

5 CENTIMETERS PER SECOND 

From the masterful director Makoto Shinkai, who also brought you Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in our Early Days has released his newest work, 5 Centimeters Per Second, recently.
“The movie is named 5 Centimeters Per Second for the speed at which cherry blossom petals fall, petals being a metaphorical represen- tation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways.”

Much like his other works, the theme for this anime is “distance”. Shinkai perhaps, have mastered story-telling of this theme. He crafted each episode so well with this theme… that you can’t help but be moved. Each episode uses the theme but each potrayed in a different way. The first episode being the physical distance between our characters. The second being the distance in feelings. And the third being the distance in time.

But be warned, the animation of this movie along with an hd encode may cause blindness, so come in with high expectations. This movie has probably the most beautiful animation ever. The art direction and scenery in this movie will just blow you away. I have never been so impressed like this.

This will be the first guest mix I’ll put out here.
It’s from a good friend of mine aka The Abstract. We first met in collage some five years ago I think. We both studied Graphic Design in Utrecht. Soon we became close friends, mostly because of  our same pasion for good music! And from that day on we went to like every concert there was in holland and I have to say it was a good time!
Last year he moved to birmingham and we didn’t spoke each other all that much. But when he found out about my site and the mixes I did he immideatly wanted to do one of his own. This came out into a work you can get here. It’s a tribute to the producer that inspires us both: the great J Dilla. let him rest in peace!

Friday seven march alien the palien gave us a next-level night out at the Artis Planetarium (part of amsterdams Zoo Artis) named: Nachtsalon. After nights at Energetica, Statemuseum and Citymuseum this is already the ninth edition of this ongoing exploration through cultural amsterdam! If  you couldn’t be there you missed out sum’ once in a lifetime stuf.

Hear this:  a party in a dome theater, starting with a fantastic look at the solar system, a great audio and video installment which created a beautiful three-dimensional image that make you feel like your into space itself! Then a video artist doing his self created spontaneous fantasia video experience, a sciencejournalist braggin, a DJ djeeing and two producers who took over the planetarium for one night!

Starting off with a performance of Govert Schilling who did his thing which include braggin about the fact that a planet is named after the men haha. Next Yuro & Trago a dutch DJ-Duo who in there performance left behind daft punk in lightyears and did a set that included an animated remix of a image similar to what you can see here. KC Funkaholic (from kindred-Spirits) did where he is good at and then they brought out J. Walt a oscar winning artist and programmer from LA who is behind this fantastic video-art-experience! He did five performances which all consisted of him drawing on a tablet while using a slider to manipulate the camera angles and movement. Really a new and fantastic experience! Love it.
