Berlin Breakdown
By jazzyjazzz

Destination: Kreuzberg in Berlin
It’s already been a month, but here is the my review of the latest refreshing sounds at
Ekko(Utrecht)! Thanks too the lovely lady’s
karel&sjaak for there dropcards!
For the third edition of Heineken Refreshing Sound Sessions the organization took Mocky & Jazzanova from the German capital for some on spot remixing! They chosed Ekko, a place with modest pricing and friendly staff (all volunteers) which makes you feel good rightaway! Before entering the club three Daft Punk-lookalikes (black catsuits) kept you from passing thru and only with a plastic dropcard you can enter. The access code on the back is for downloading later on.

Mocky got on stage at about ten a clock, but he first had to break down the Berlin Wall (complete with Graffiti) built between his band an the audience. Luckaly two east-european girls helped out.
Multi-instrumentalist Mocky who is partly responsible for the megahit Multiply two years ago, a song that he and
Jamie Lidell wrote started with the hit: “Mocky Munky C Munky Do” which would be remixed later on. Mocky who exchanged piano and sampler with drums and percussion, threatens the mini-pineapple wich was pasted on a conga to fall under his violence.
At the other room,
Domu,
Steven de Peven and Jazzanova are recording every note at there harddisk and immediately started with remixing all of the raw material. Around 1:30, the remixes from the Mocky song are released. Domu and especially Jazzanova where the dopest. Steven was a bit disapointing. Then Jazzanova started with a adventurous dj-set full of soul, broken beats, Nu-House and brazilian sounds!
For the people who couldent be there
HERE my favorite remix of the night by Jazzanova.
See you at the next refresing sounds. And thanks to
Freddy!
